Our story continues as Katsuragi Keima is still under contract to hell for his co-operation in the capturing of loose souls that have escaped from hell and planted themselves in the emptiness inside numerous girls hearts, along with his partner, the demon Elsie, they continue their mission in the second season. This time there are only three heroines, however they are less standard than the heroines of the first season and include a martial arts girl who wants to conquer her feminine side, a classmate of Keima and Elsies that would only make background character in a dating sim and a student teacher with an overbearing sense of ideals. Depending on your tastes youll find these new heroines either even better or not as good, but thats all based on your personal taste, they all get more character development which is a big plus when you consider the lack of it that the early first season heroines had and we are given more info about the whole loose souls deal when another new character enters the scene. The second season gives us more information which helps us understand things better and provides us with the comedy and romance one has come to expect from the series.
The animation of the series again, is really nice to look at; its just as good as it was in season 1. Whilst there is very little difference between the characters designs there didnt really need to be as far as Im concerned, which tells you just how well season 1s character designs were. The backgrounds are again really good, some nice detail is put in to them. Not much else to say really.
The music in this show is pretty good as well, it re-uses many of the tracks from the first season as well as a couple of its own which are pretty solid. The new opening is again done by Oratorio titled A whole new World God Only Knows which is very similar to Season 1s intro so like that one, then youll like this one. The Outro theme is also reminiscent of season 1s outro, done by 2 different artists Kami no Mizo Shiri-tai and Kakedama-tai. Ai no Yokan. Same as the intro opinion wise. Now season 1s dub may have been hit or miss but season 2 gets more hits so its an improvement on season 1s dub.
Overall The World God Only Knows II picks up where season 1 leaves off, the plot is more focused with fewer conquests and gives us more info on Hell of this series, the animation is very similar to season 1 which makes the transition between series smoother, the soundtrack is as good as ever and with a better dub the second season is as good as the first if not slightly better, so my seal of approval is slapped on this season too.
Now for the Blu Ray itself, first up the box:
The first season was very sci fi looking, this one is more fantastical and the 2 devils have a double moe attack, it hits my weak spot for massive damage, in short I have a real soft spot for it.
Extras are kind of scarce again unfortunately, which is a real shame, for a series this good I was hoping theyd go the extra mile but again Im let down, whether its their fault or not. Though they do make or for the loss of Kanons music videos with Japanese TV spots and Release Spots. But even Needless gave us more and despite liking that series its not at this animes level. Thumbs down here.
